This blog is closing. Please join me at my new website http://www.penguinpetes.com/ . All the pictures are moving there, to a better home!

Why this site?
I've blogged before and I'll blog again. This time, I wanted to keep the words to the minimum. Just pictures. I've always doodled around with graphics, being fairly well-versed in programming, but it's only recently that I got into 3D modeling and discovered that I love it. Graphics and programming make a balanced geek, exercising both halves of the brain.
How can I use this work?
Exactly as specified in the Creative Commons link at the top of this page. Attribution can be a simple line of text in the directory of wallpapers, credits in a game, a link back to this site for web use, or just about anything else that mentions me by name or by blog. I especially and explicitly grant full and permanent permission to any Free Software or Open Source Software distribution to use these wallpapers in their release. Anybody working on a GNU/Linux, BSD, OpenSolaris, Plan9, or other distribution need do nothing more than save the images from this site, include them with the distro, and credit me somewhere in any way at all. The same goes for any Free/Open Source software authors who would want to use these images or parts of them in their project.
What tools do you use?
I'm proud to say it's all done with free GNU/Linux software! A current
round-up of my main tools:
What's up with the image size / quality?
Currently, I'm sticking with 1024x768 format. I have older 640x480 and 800x600 images in the earliest archives. Take into account the following factors:
Are you available to do banners, splash screens, backgrounds, or small graphic design for free software projects or non-profit organizations?
I'd be delighted! Email me about it: firstname.lastname@example.org
Are you available for doing the same for a commercial, non-free project?
Only for money. Money you, money me. Free you, free me. Fair's fair!
Are you ever going to post any "adult" images?
No. Not that I'm a prude, but simply because there are enough adult sites on the internet already. Just thought I'd try to be different...I have kids, too, y'know!
.jpg's are lousy! Why don't you post pictures in a less lossy format?
Of the most cross-platform compatible formats, .jpg's load the fastest for the average image. .png's would be the best choice, but not all browsers *cough*MS*cough* support them evenly. Although I do use the "post pages" Blogger feature, I like to keep as many pictures as possible on the one page, so visitors can freely browse without having to click around. I might go with something else, later. Right now, the page load averages about 20-30 seconds, delays due mostly to the links which sometimes hang. I will always keep performance in mind - I value my visitor's patience the most. After all, I put the boring FAQ at the bottom, where it's out of everybody's way!
